Family and civil rights leaders gathered Monday in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to say farewell to 18-year-old Nolan Wells, whose death has sparked calls for justice from prominent national figures.
Wells had gone out on a boat with friends over the Fourth of July holiday but never returned home. His body was later discovered on Horn Island in Mississippi.
At a memorial service held Monday, Wells’ mother, Christine Wells-Wonsley, was surrounded by her husband Elmore, nationally known civil rights attorney Ben Crump, and the Rev. Al Sharpton, who joined the family in demanding answers and justice for the young man.
