
Top-seeded Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan made quick work of his Generali Open title defense on Wednesday in Kitzbuhel, Austria, taking down Argentina’s Facundo Diaz Acosta 6-3, 7-5 in just 79 minutes of play.
Ranked 11th in the ATP, Bublik delivered eight aces throughout the match and was tested by only a single break point en route to the quarterfinals. His next opponent will be Slovakia’s Alex Molcan, who earned his spot with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 victory over Germany’s Daniel Altmaier.
Argentina’s Sebastian Baez, the 2023 Generali Open champion on clay, pulled off a notable upset against third-seeded Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, winning 7-6 (6), 2-6, 6-4. Baez secured the decisive break in the seventh game of the final set to advance. Second-seeded Valentin Vacherot of Monaco also stumbled, falling 6-3, 6-4 to France’s Quentin Halys.
Fourth-seeded Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina moved forward with a 6-2, 7-6 (4) win over Austria’s Jurji Radionov, while Peru’s fifth-seeded Ignacio Buse battled past Switzerland’s Kilian Feldbausch 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Sixth-seeded German Jan-Lennard Struff had a rough outing, losing 6-0, 6-3 to Argentina’s Mariano Navone. German veteran Yannick Hanfmann rounded out the day’s results, eliminating Argentina’s Marco Trungelliti 6-4, 7-6 (2).
At the Estoril Open in Portugal, 24-year-old wild card Tiago Torres delivered his second upset in three days, knocking out third-seeded Alejandro Tabilo of Chile 6-4, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals on home soil. Torres, ranked 427th in the world, was playing in just his first ATP event.
Torres kept Tabilo’s eight break-point chances mostly at bay, allowing only one conversion, while breaking early in both sets to secure the win. He will now face Frenchman Hugo Gaston, who beat fellow Frenchman Tirouan Droguet 6-0, 6-3.
Fourth-seeded Belgian Alexander Blockx advanced with a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4) win over France’s Kyrian Jacquet. However, fifth-seeded Portuguese player Nuno Borges was eliminated, dropping a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 decision to Argentina’s Roman Andres Burruchaga.
