BMW is pulling more than 318,000 vehicles off the road in the United States due to a potentially dangerous fire hazard, federal safety officials announced Thursday.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that the recall covers 318,495 vehicles after concerns emerged that the engine starter motor in certain models could overheat and catch fire.
The affected vehicles include the Toyota Supra, 4 Series Convertible, 4 Series Coupe, 3 Series, X4, and X3 models. Owners of these vehicles will be able to bring their cars to a dealership, where technicians will replace the engine starter at no charge as part of the remedy.
