Yankees Put Cody Bellinger on IL With Hamstring Strain, Call Up Spencer Jones

The New York Yankees continue to face mounting injury problems after placing All-Star outfielder Cody Bellinger on the 10-day injured list Sunday, this time with a hamstring strain.

Bellinger got hurt during Saturday’s 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies while running around first base in the top of the eighth inning. He remained in the game at first but was visibly limping as he made his way back to the dugout between innings.

Earlier in that same game, Bellinger’s RBI single in the sixth inning turned out to be the deciding run for New York. His presence has been especially valuable for the Yankees, a team already missing Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton due to separate injuries.

Through 102 games this season, Bellinger is hitting .259 with 11 home runs, 53 RBIs, and a .770 OPS. The injury comes just 12 days after he was named the MVP of the All-Star Game.

To fill his spot on the roster, the Yankees recalled outfielder Spencer Jones from their Triple-A affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Jones has played in 31 games for New York this year, posting a .224 batting average with two home runs and seven RBIs.
