The medical school at the University of Minnesota is now selling dolls specifically aimed at what it describes as “transgender and gender diverse children.” The toys are designed for youngsters between the ages of four and ten, with the university framing their purpose as therapeutic play.
According to reports, the dolls can be outfitted with a variety of clothing and hairstyle options, allowing children to mix and match male and female characteristics as they see fit.
The initiative has drawn sharp criticism from those who argue the dolls serve as a grooming tool. Critics are also raising concerns about where the funding for the project is coming from and whether public or institutional money is being used to support it.
