The nation’s wildfire readiness has been pushed to its maximum level, with federal officials officially raising the national wildfire preparedness rating to five out of five.
The elevated status means that firefighting crews and equipment could be in short supply if new wildfires break out or existing ones continue to grow. When the preparedness level reaches this peak, resources are already being heavily utilized, making it more difficult to respond quickly to additional fire activity.
