President Donald Trump is preparing to impose a new round of tariffs on dozens of countries, possibly as soon as this week, according to a Tuesday report from the Financial Times. The announcement would come just before his temporary 10% across-the-board global tariff is scheduled to expire on Friday.
According to the Financial Times, the initial wave of new duties is expected to be roughly in line with the existing 10% tariff rate. However, the administration is also pursuing separate investigations that could provide the legal grounds to push for significantly higher tariffs in the future.
Reuters, which first circulated the report, noted it was unable to independently confirm the details at the time of publication.
