Trump-Backed Ex-NFL Player Jay Feely Wins Arizona House Republican Primary

Former professional football player Jay Feely, backed by President Donald Trump, has claimed victory in the Republican primary for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, according to projections from media outlets on Tuesday.

The outcome of the November 3 general election in that district could play a role in whether Republicans are able to maintain their majority in the House. The district’s current Republican representative, David Schweikert, did not seek re-election to the seat, instead running a gubernatorial campaign that did not succeed.
