Listen to the Evening Delmarva Farm Report Update — July 18, 2026

DELMARVA — A Tornado Watch covers all of Delaware and the northern Mid-shore through 9 p.m. Saturday, as dangerous storms move across the region. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was in effect until 6:15 p.m., with powerful winds, heavy rain, and dangerous lightning listed as the primary threats. Farmers with livestock or equipment in the field are urged to secure what they can and remain weather-aware.

A Flood Watch runs through Sunday morning. A Heat Advisory was in effect earlier Saturday, with temperatures reaching 94°F.

Forecast

Sunday is expected to bring relief, with mostly sunny skies, highs near 85°F, and northwest winds of 5-10 mph — conditions considered favorable for fieldwork heading into next week.

Markets

Grains finished the week on a strong note. September corn settled at $4.44¾/bu., up 3¼ cents. August soybeans closed at $12.04½, gaining 9½ cents on the day. Weather concerns and strong USDA export sales were cited as drivers of those gains. Soybean export sales included 340,000 tons to China, 256,000 tons to Mexico, and another 120,000 tons to undisclosed buyers, all for the 2026-2027 marketing year. September Chicago wheat settled at $6.82¾/bu.

At Laurel Grain Company in Laurel, Delaware, September corn bids stood at $4.90/bu., with November soybeans at $11.53/bu.

Livestock

A Purdue University agricultural economist is warning cattle producers that feeder cattle profit margins could tighten significantly into 2027 as input costs climb.
