When life takes a difficult turn, many Americans find themselves opening the Bible. A new survey from the American Bible Institute found that people experiencing hardships — whether it’s going through a divorce, battling an illness, or grieving the loss of someone close to them — are significantly more likely to read scripture than those who are not facing such challenges.
The poll also found that losing a job or surviving a natural disaster can push people toward the Bible as well. The findings suggest that personal crisis often serves as a catalyst for turning to faith.
The results echo the words of Romans 15:4, which states that “through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”
