DELMARVA — Senate Agriculture Committee leaders may be closing in on a bipartisan farm bill agreement before the August recess. According to Duane Simpson, CEO of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, Senators John Boozman of Arkansas and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota both believe a deal is within reach. Simpson says the 2 senators feel they are very close to an agreement, and the option is there to get it done before lawmakers head home.
Markets
It was a rough close across the board Monday. Cattle futures took the hardest hit after news broke that the United States intends to resume importing live cattle from Mexico. August live cattle settled at $225.22, down $1.85. August feeder cattle dropped $7.07, closing at $338.25. October live cattle fell $3.72 to close at $218.77.
Grain markets also finished lower. September corn settled at $4.51¾, down 12½ cents. August soybeans closed at $12.08½, off 39½ cents. September Chicago wheat finished at $6.60, down 18 cents. At Triple-M Farms in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, August soybeans are bidding $12.09/bu.
Forecast
A Flash Flood Warning from the National Weather Service remains in effect Monday evening through 9:30 p.m. Producers are advised to keep equipment and livestock away from low-lying fields. Showers and storms are likely again Tuesday, with highs near 84°F.
