Senate Advances Jay Clayton’s Nomination as Director of National Intelligence

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Senate took a major step Monday toward confirming Jay Clayton as the country’s next director of national intelligence, voting 51 to 43 to move his nomination forward.

Clayton is President Donald Trump’s choice to lead the nation’s intelligence community. With Monday’s procedural vote clearing the way, the full Senate could hold a final confirmation vote as soon as later this week.
