WASHINGTON — The U.S. Secret Service confirmed Thursday that a member of Vice President JD Vance’s personal security team is now under investigation following allegations connected to a suspected leak to the news media.
Agency spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said the individual is facing both an internal review and a possible criminal inquiry. The allegations center on what officials describe as compromised “operational and information security.”
“While we will not comment on the specifics of this matter, one principle is unequivocal: any conduct that potentially threatens the safety of a protectee will not be tolerated,” Guglielmi said in an official statement.
The Secret Service declined to name the person currently under investigation.
According to the agency, the probe stems from a report published last week by MS NOW, which claimed that certain Secret Service agents had privately voiced frustration over last-minute travel requests made by Vance and members of his family. When asked for comment, Vance’s office directed all questions to the Secret Service.
Vance, his wife Usha, and their children reside at the official vice president’s residence located at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington.
Just this past Sunday, the couple welcomed a new baby boy named Alec Neel Vance — making him the first child born to a sitting vice president in over 150 years. Alec joins his older siblings: Ewan, age 9; Vivek, age 6; and Mirabel, age 4.
