The New York Mets welcomed back outfielder Luis Robert Jr. on Monday, removing him from the injured list just in time for the start of their road series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Robert, who is 28 years old, had been on the shelf since April 27 after suffering a lumbar spine disc herniation in his back. The Mets acquired him from the Chicago White Sox in a trade back in January. Before going down with the injury, he appeared in 24 games for New York, batting .224 with two home runs and eight RBIs.
Robert carries a $20 million team option for the 2027 season. However, his future with the Mets may be uncertain — the team reportedly has been looking at moving players as they hold the second-worst record in the National League at 42-58, with the August 3 trade deadline approaching.
Across seven seasons split between the White Sox (2020-25) and the Mets, Robert has posted a career batting average of .258 with 104 home runs and 306 RBIs over 601 games.
As part of the roster adjustment, the Mets optioned first baseman Eric Wagaman to Triple-A Syracuse. The 28-year-old Wagaman has struggled this season, going 6-for-37 — a .162 average — with two home runs and four RBIs across 21 games.
