Iran Condemns Ukraine Strike on Caspian Sea Ship, One Sailor Dead

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spoke out Saturday, condemning what it called an unprovoked Ukrainian attack on one of its commercial ships sailing in the Caspian Sea. Iranian officials said the strike triggered an explosion that took the life of one sailor and left a second crew member injured.

Tehran labeled the incident an act of aggression and vowed to protect its national interests and security. Iranian officials also accused Ukraine of attempting to widen the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine into new territory.

For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed Saturday that Ukrainian forces had struck a Russian warship as well as other vessels being used to transport military cargo linked to Iran in the Caspian Sea.
