A person is now in custody following the deployment of an incendiary device outside a federal building in New York City on Monday morning, according to the FBI.
The incident occurred outside 26 Federal Plaza in lower Manhattan, prompting the FBI New York Joint Terrorism Task Force to launch an investigation. FBI Director Kash Patel took to social media to confirm that two people suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident.
The building at 26 Federal Plaza serves as headquarters for a range of government offices, including the New York field office of the FBI. It also houses an immigration court that has been the site of several migrant arrests following hearings.
Video footage and photographs captured at the scene showed flames and a column of black smoke rising from the sidewalk in front of the building. Officers were also seen restraining an individual and escorting them from the area.
