Ant International, an overseas affiliate of the Chinese fintech giant Ant Group — founded by Jack Ma — has successfully raised $1.2 billion in its most recent equity funding round as part of a broader push to grow its global footprint.
The company announced Tuesday that fellow affiliates Ant Group and Alibaba Group both took part in the private funding round, though it did not reveal the specific amount either contributed.
With the fresh capital in hand, Ant International intends to speed up its growth in merchant payment processing, account management services, and other financial products aimed at businesses around the world.
Headquartered in Singapore, the digital payments and fintech company was separated from China’s Ant Group and began operating as an independent business in 2024.
Reuters reported last month, citing a source familiar with the matter, that Ant International carried a valuation of $10 billion heading into this latest funding round.
The company’s path to this point has not been without turbulence. Chinese regulators stepped in to halt Ant Group’s planned stock market debut in 2020, just before it was set to launch — a move that ultimately led to Ma relinquishing control of Ant Group.
Ant International currently operates primarily across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America. Through its network of banks, card organizations, mobile payment platforms, and technology firms, the company says it reaches 150 million merchants and 2 billion user accounts globally.
