Ford is pulling back more than 565,000 vehicles from U.S. roads after federal safety officials identified a potential fire risk tied to the engine compartment wiring system.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Friday that the recall covers 565,691 vehicles. Specifically, certain 2021 through 2026 Bronco and Bronco Raptor models are affected by the issue.
According to the auto safety agency, the wiring harness located in the engine compartment can sustain damage and short circuit. When that happens, the resulting heat or sparks could increase the likelihood of a fire breaking out.
To address the problem, Ford dealers will wrap protective sheathing around the affected wiring. The repair will be performed at no charge to vehicle owners, NHTSA confirmed.
