The Chicago Fire are reportedly sending their top striker, Hugo Cuypers, to CF Monterrey of Liga MX, with multiple media outlets confirming the transfer agreement.
Cuypers, a Belgian forward who has been nicknamed “the European Goal Machine” by the website SoyFutbol, is currently the leading scorer in Major League Soccer this season, having netted 13 goals in only 11 appearances. According to The Athletic, Chicago will take in a base fee of $7.5 million, with an additional $500,000 potentially coming through performance-related add-ons.
During his time with the Fire, Cuypers scored 40 goals across 75 matches after the club originally brought him in for $12 million back in February 2024.
The deal comes just under two weeks after another MLS star made the same move to Monterrey. Columbus Crew leading scorer Diego Rossi transferred to the Mexican club for $8 million after tallying 37 goals and 20 assists in 88 games for Columbus. Rossi wasted no time making an impact, picking up an assist in his Rayados debut — a 3-2 season-opening victory on Saturday.
