The Milwaukee Brewers returned infielder David Hamilton to active duty Friday, taking him off the injured list while designating fellow infielder Braden Shewmake for assignment.
Hamilton wasted no time getting back on the field, slotting into the starting lineup at third base and batting ninth in the team’s series opener against Colorado. He had been placed on the 10-day injured list on July 7 after straining his left hamstring. On the season, Hamilton is batting .240 with three home runs, six doubles, 15 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases.
The multi-position infielder has shown his versatility across 74 games this year, including 65 starts — 36 at third base, 25 at shortstop, and four at second base.
Before rejoining the big league club, Hamilton participated in two rehab games at Triple-A Nashville, recording one hit in seven at-bats.
Shewmake, who came to Milwaukee from Houston on July 12, played in four games with the Brewers. He hit .286, going 2-for-7 with one double, one RBI, and one stolen base during his time with the club.
