The Baltimore Orioles traveled to Boston on Wednesday and put an end to one of the most impressive runs in recent baseball history, topping the Red Sox 5-1 in the second game of a doubleheader to snap Boston’s 15-game winning streak.
The streak had been the longest in the majors since St. Louis rattled off 17 consecutive wins back in 2021. A Boston victory in the nightcap would have set a new franchise record for consecutive wins. Instead, the Red Sox settled for tying the mark set by the 1946 club with a 6-3 win in the first game. Boston’s last loss before Wednesday had come on July 1, a 10-2 defeat against the Washington Nationals.
Orioles starter Kyle Bradish earned the win, improving to 7-9 on the season after working six innings. He surrendered just one run on four hits, struck out four batters and walked one. Relievers Yennier Cano, Andrew Kittredge and Tyler Wells each threw a scoreless inning to close things out. Baltimore managed the victory despite going just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position, while holding Boston to only five hits overall.
Red Sox starter Eduardo Rivera, now 0-1, was removed with two outs in the first inning after giving up four runs on three hits and two walks. Brayan Bello came on in relief and was sharp, striking out five batters across 5 1/3 scoreless innings.
Red Sox 6, Orioles 3 (Game 1)
In the earlier contest, the Red Sox tied that franchise record with their 15th straight win. Ceddanne Rafaela hit a home run, and Jarren Duran drove in three runs to power Boston past Baltimore. The Red Sox never trailed in the game. Rafaela, Caleb Durbin and Willson Contreras each had two hits for Boston.
Boston starter Jake Bennett, now 6-3, worked 5 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on nine hits. Aroldis Chapman closed it out with a scoreless ninth inning for his 23rd save of 2026 and 390th of his career, tying him for ninth on the all-time saves list alongside former Red Sox pitcher Dennis Eckersley.
Baltimore starter Dean Kremer fell to 1-3 after allowing six runs on eight hits over six innings.
Royals 5, Giants 3
In Kansas City, Salvador Perez delivered a historic moment, connecting on his 317th career home run to tie George Brett’s franchise record. The blast triggered a five-run seventh inning that lifted the Royals to victory and completed a three-game sweep of San Francisco.
Kansas City had trailed 3-0 through six innings with just two hits before erupting against starter Landen Roupp and reliever Sam Hentges, who dropped to 1-3. Perez’s 437-foot shot drove in the first two runs of the rally, and Lane Thomas added a two-out single to bring in the final two. Royals starter Seth Lugo allowed three runs and three hits over seven innings, and Steven Cruz earned his first career save despite allowing a solo homer to Casey Schmitt in the ninth.
Pirates 5, Yankees 3 (10 innings, Game 1)
Jared Triolo delivered a tiebreaking RBI single with one out in the 10th inning as Pittsburgh rallied past New York in the opener of a split doubleheader at Yankee Stadium. The Pirates, who had built a three-run lead before surrendering it, won for the ninth time in their last 13 games. Automatic runner Nick Gonzales moved to third on a fly ball, and Fernando Cruz walked pinch hitter Marcell Ozuna before Triolo blooped a 1-2 splitter in front of left fielder Cody Bellinger to score Gonzales. Pinch runner Billy Cook then scored on a Jake Mangum single to center. Mason Montgomery improved to 3-3 with a strong outing, and Gregory Soto earned his 13th save in 18 chances.

Max Fried made a strong return from the injured list, and Jasson Dominguez hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the seventh inning as New York avoided being swept at home in the doubleheader. Fried, making his first major league start since May 13, struck out seven and walked just one over 57 pitches. The left-hander threw seven different pitch types, averaged 96 mph with his four-seam fastball and retired the final 12 batters he faced. The Yankees improved to 7-3 in their last 10 games.
Dodgers 9, Phillies 5
Max Muncy hit a go-ahead home run in the sixth inning, and Los Angeles won the rubber match of a three-game series in Philadelphia. Dalton Rushing and Tommy Edman each drove in three runs, with Rushing also going deep. Freddie Freeman and Edman each had three hits. Left-hander Eric Lauer fell to 5-5 after giving up three runs in 5 1/3 innings for the Phillies. Alec Bohm and Bryan De La Cruz homered for Philadelphia, while Aaron Nola dropped to 3-8 after allowing five runs on seven hits.

Batting ninth in the order, Joey Ortiz ripped a two-run double, finished with three hits and scored twice as Milwaukee topped New York to take the decisive game of their three-game series. Christian Yelich contributed an RBI single in a three-run second inning and added a run-scoring triple in the sixth. Logan Henderson improved to 4-1 after allowing two runs on five hits with nine strikeouts over five innings, matching the career high he set in his MLB debut on April 20, 2025.

JJ Wetherholt hit a solo home run and four St. Louis pitchers combined on a seven-hit shutout as the Cardinals salvaged the final game of their series in Anaheim. Hunter Dobbins improved to 2-1, allowing six hits over six innings for his sixth career major league win. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for St. Louis, which had matched a season-high skid.

Luis Garcia Jr. hit a home run, Cade Cavalli threw six strong innings, and Washington cruised past Colorado in the rubber game of the series in Denver. Cavalli improved to 7-4 after scattering four hits. CJ Abrams went 4-for-4, and Jorbit Vivas, Nasim Nunez, Dylan Crews and Jose Tena each had two hits. The Nationals have scored seven or more runs in four of their last six games. Colorado committed three errors leading to two unearned runs and finished 2-4 on its homestand.

Griffin Jax pitched six effective innings as Tampa Bay defeated Toronto to take the first three games of their four-game series. Jax improved to 6-7, allowing one run on three hits. Bryan Baker pitched a perfect ninth for his 26th save. Victor Mesa Jr. had two RBI singles for the Rays, who are now 8-1 against Toronto this season. Alejandro Kirk homered for the Blue Jays, who are 1-5 on their current homestand.
Tigers 5, Cubs 1
Hao-Yu Lee hit a three-run home run and starter Keider Montero turned in a quality outing as Detroit beat Chicago to finish a successful road trip. Lee’s homer in the fourth inning broke a 1-1 tie, and the Tigers’ pitching staff kept the Cubs scoreless the rest of the way. Montero improved to 7-5 in his first start since June 26, giving up one run in 5 1/3 innings. Detroit went 4-2 on the road trip.

Sal Stewart hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning as Cincinnati defeated Seattle. JJ Bleday also went deep, and Brady Singer improved to 5-9 after throwing 6 2/3 quality innings. The win gave the Reds two of three in the interleague series and knocked Seattle out of first place in the American League West. Mariners starter Emerson Hancock left after six innings with a 3-2 lead but could not hold it.
White Sox 4, Rangers 2
Chase Meidroth went 4-for-4 with two RBIs, Andrew Benintendi added two hits and two RBIs, and Chicago beat Texas to secure its third straight series victory. Left-hander Anthony Kay worked five strong innings, and relievers Jordan Hicks, Grant Taylor and Bryan Hudson combined to retire 12 of 13 batters with eight strikeouts. Hudson earned his fourth save. Rangers starter Cal Quantrill fell to 3-3.
Diamondbacks 15, Athletics 5
Arizona had its best offensive game of the season, posting season highs in runs, hits (17) and home runs (five) while routing the visiting Athletics. Nine Diamondbacks recorded hits, and the team celebrated two milestones: catcher James McCann hit his 100th career homer in the fifth inning, and two batters later, rookie Ryan Waldschmidt hit his first. Gabriel Moreno added a solo shot to cap a seven-run fifth inning. Athletics starter Gage Jump dropped to 3-6 after giving up six runs in 4 2/3 innings. Oakland has now gone 2-13 over its last 15 games.
Twins 10, Guardians 6
Brooks Lee hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs total, and Trevor Larnach added a leadoff blast with three RBIs as Minnesota snapped a four-game losing streak by beating Cleveland. Lee’s three-run shot came in a four-run fourth inning that gave the Twins a 7-3 lead. Travis Adams improved to 2-0 with two scoreless innings of relief. Seven-time All-Star Jose Ramirez returned from the injured list for Cleveland, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Ramirez had been sidelined since June 13 after fracturing his left wrist against the Detroit Tigers.

Rookie Jim Jarvis sparked a six-run eighth-inning rally with an RBI double, and Atlanta held on to defeat San Diego and take a 2-1 lead in their four-game series. Braves starter Martin Perez was activated before the game and made his first start since July 5, when he landed on the injured list after being struck on the left forearm by a line drive. He threw four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. San Diego’s Michael King worked six innings, giving up one run on five hits — his third straight start allowing one run.
Astros 5, Marlins 2
Yordan Alvarez launched his 34th home run of the season in the eighth inning, a tiebreaking two-run shot that carried Houston to victory over Miami and completed a three-game interleague sweep. Alvarez homered for the third time in the series and leads all of baseball in that category. He followed a leadoff infield single by Jeremy Pena with an opposite-field blast to left-center off Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara, who fell to 10-6, snapping a 2-2 tie. The loss sent Miami to its ninth straight defeat. Alcantara allowed five runs on nine hits in seven-plus innings, while Astros starter Peter Lambert gave up two runs on six hits over six innings.
