Aviation Industry Calls on Congress to Fund $20B Air Traffic Control Overhaul

A wide-ranging coalition representing the U.S. aviation industry stepped forward Wednesday to call on Congress to allocate $20 billion toward a sweeping overhaul of the nation’s air traffic control infrastructure.

The group — which includes airlines, aircraft manufacturers, labor unions, and other industry stakeholders — says the funding is essential to replace and modernize hundreds of outdated air traffic control facilities. The money would also go toward equipping controllers with cutting-edge technology and building advanced tools to better manage airspace traffic.

Industry leaders say the investment is critical to addressing long-standing safety concerns and reducing the chronic flight disruptions that have plagued the U.S. aviation system for years.
