The Athletics made a roster move Sunday, picking up right-handed pitcher Scott Blewett from the St. Louis Cardinals in a deal involving cash considerations.
St. Louis had designated the 30-year-old Blewett for assignment following a single appearance with the club this season. In that outing, he pitched two innings against the Los Angeles Angels last Tuesday, giving up one hit and two walks while striking out two batters in a 5-1 Cardinals loss.
Over the course of his big league career, Blewett has compiled a 4-1 record with a 4.10 ERA across 44 games, including two starts. In 74 and two-thirds innings pitched, he has recorded 63 strikeouts against 34 walks. His career has taken him through five organizations — the Kansas City Royals from 2020 to 2021, the Minnesota Twins in 2024 and 2025, the Baltimore Orioles in 2025, the Atlanta Braves in 2025, and most recently the Cardinals.
Blewett’s professional journey began when Kansas City selected him in the second round of the 2014 MLB Draft.
