Speaking at a news briefing in Farnborough, England on Tuesday, Airbus confirmed it is actively seeking additional engines from Pratt & Whitney for the year 2027, as the aircraft manufacturer continues to navigate a difficult tug of war with airlines over limited engine supplies.
Airbus Commercial CEO Lars Wagner told reporters gathered for a presentation on updated business forecasts that he anticipates the long-running engine supply problems will ultimately be worked out by 2028.
Wagner also noted that the company is hopeful it will receive more engines from its alternate supplier, CFM, which has already been fulfilling its agreed-upon delivery quantities.
Separately, Pratt & Whitney — which operates as a unit of RTX — said earlier that a maintenance disruption responsible for leaving hundreds of aircraft sitting idle on the ground is now beginning to ease.
