Two people lost their lives and five others were hurt — among them a toddler just 2 years old — after gunfire erupted Sunday evening at a food festival in downtown Seattle, according to local news reports.
Seattle police confirmed that multiple individuals had been shot in the city’s downtown area that evening. Officers took to social media platform X to warn the public to steer clear of Seattle Center, where the Bite of Seattle food festival was underway at the time of the shooting.
“Please avoid the area,” Seattle police wrote on X. “Police are investigating a shooting. Multiple shooting victims. Shots fired at the Seattle Center.”
The Seattle Times and local television station KOMO both reported the two fatalities and five injuries, citing information from the Seattle Fire Department.
According to the Seattle Times, witnesses said they heard multiple gunshots at approximately 6 p.m. local time, which was 0100 GMT.
