Capitalizing on the momentum from World Cup excitement, Telemundo has secured exclusive rights to broadcast UEFA Champions League matches and all other UEFA men’s soccer events in Spanish across the United States, The Athletic reported Sunday.
The terms of the financial agreement were not made public. The deal spans three years and gets underway starting with the 2027-28 season.
Viewers will be able to watch matches across several platforms, including Telemundo, Peacock, Universo, and Telemundo’s dedicated streaming channel.
The agreement builds on Telemundo’s already extensive soccer broadcasting portfolio, which includes U.S. Spanish-language rights to the Premier League, the U.S. men’s and women’s national soccer teams, and Olympic soccer competitions.
Telemundo Enterprises chairman Luis Fernandez spoke to The Athletic about the significance of the deal. “There are two major brands in world soccer: World Cup and Champions League,” he said. “After a truly memorable World Cup for Telemundo, if you ask what comes next, the answer is simple: Champions League.”
The network reported that it drew an average total audience of 6 million viewers per World Cup match through the semifinals, a figure that combined Peacock’s simulcast of the Telemundo broadcast on its platform.
Meanwhile, FIFA has yet to finalize any deal — for either English-language or Spanish-language coverage — for the 2030 World Cup.
