Two of the nation’s top judges went before Congress on Tuesday to make the case for better security and resources for the Supreme Court — and their testimony painted a troubling picture of the dangers they face.
Justices Elena Kagan and Amy Coney Barrett appeared before the House Appropriations Committee on July 14, 2026, in Washington, D.C., where they discussed funding priorities and described the serious threats that have been directed at members of the court.
The justices’ accounts of those threats were described as chilling, underscoring what has become an increasingly urgent concern about the safety of the men and women who serve on the nation’s highest court.
The hearing covered the court’s financial needs, but the personal security testimony drew significant attention as the two justices spoke candidly about the risks they and their colleagues face.
