SpaceX is gearing up to establish at least one major new data center in Texas, according to a Wednesday report from The Information, which cited sources with knowledge of the company’s plans.
The move would mark a substantial boost to SpaceX’s AI computing capabilities, going well beyond what the company currently operates near Memphis, where two existing data centers provide roughly 1 gigawatt of computing power.
According to The Information’s report, SpaceX has been scouting multiple potential locations across Texas over the past several months. The company is weighing options that include building brand-new data center facilities as well as converting an existing warehouse into a usable space.
The scale of the Texas operation is expected to match or exceed what SpaceX already runs at its Memphis-area sites. In a sign that planning is already underway, some of the company’s current data center employees have reportedly been transferred to Texas ahead of the expansion.
SpaceX did not respond to a request for comment on the report.
The expansion comes after SpaceX secured AI computing agreements with Anthropic in May and with Google in June, moves seen as part of the company’s broader push to generate revenue from its AI infrastructure.
