Major League Baseball is making history before the 2027 season even begins, announcing what will be the earliest traditional Opening Day the league has ever seen.
MLB revealed on Thursday that the 2027 campaign will kick off with an Opening Night game on March 24, with 14 games scheduled the following day on March 25. That slate of games represents the earliest traditional Opening Day in the league’s history, surpassing the previous earliest start of March 26.
The 2027 schedule also includes the continuation of “Rivalry Weekend,” which will run from July 15 through July 18, immediately following the All-Star break. The weekend will spotlight interleague matchups, mirroring the rivalries that were featured during the 2025 edition. A single game will get Rivalry Weekend started on Thursday before the full slate follows.
Before Rivalry Weekend tips off, baseball fans will be treated to the 97th All-Star Game on July 13 at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The Home Run Derby will take place the night before, on July 12.
Wrigley Field’s hosting of the Midsummer Classic will be a historic occasion in itself. It will mark the fourth time the iconic ballpark has hosted the event — in 1947, 1962, 1990, and now 2027 — making it the only currently active venue to reach that milestone and just the third venue ever in league history to do so.
The regular season will wrap up on September 26, with 10 divisional matchups on the schedule as teams potentially fight for playoff spots.
Several notable holidays will feature full slates of games, including Jackie Robinson Day (April 15), Memorial Day (May 31), Lou Gehrig Day (June 2), Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day (September 6), and Roberto Clemente Day (September 15).
Specific featured matchups on those days include the Los Angeles Dodgers hosting the Colorado Rockies on Jackie Robinson Day, the New York Yankees welcoming the Kansas City Royals on Lou Gehrig Day, and the Pittsburgh Pirates taking on the St. Louis Cardinals on Roberto Clemente Day.
Other schedule highlights include the Boston Red Sox hosting the Cleveland Guardians on Patriots Day (April 19), the Athletics hosting back-to-back series at Las Vegas Ballpark against the San Diego Padres starting May 31 and the Cincinnati Reds beginning June 3, the Padres hosting the Chicago Cubs in a split doubleheader on June 22, the Toronto Blue Jays hosting the Los Angeles Angels on Canada Day (July 1), and the Colorado Rockies hosting the Padres in a split doubleheader on July 10.
