New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto was forced out of a home game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night after experiencing soreness in his left calf.
The team had already given Soto the previous Wednesday off to allow the calf to recover. Despite that rest, he returned to the lineup Friday, batting second in the designated hitter spot. He drew walks in both of his plate appearances before being pulled from the game.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Jorge Polanco came in to pinch-hit for Soto and struck out on a foul tip.
The 27-year-old Soto is currently hitting .283 on the season, with 21 home runs and 52 RBIs to his name.
