Lebanese Soldier Killed After Army Vehicle Strikes Explosive Device in South Lebanon

A Lebanese soldier died Saturday after an explosive device detonated within an army vehicle traveling through the southern Lebanese town of Mansouri, according to a statement from the Lebanese army. An officer and one additional soldier sustained injuries in the blast.

The Israeli military also commented on the incident, stating that the vehicle had driven over an explosive device in the Al-Mansouri area. Following a review, Israeli forces concluded the device did not originate from the Israeli military and was most likely planted by Hezbollah.

Israeli officials further noted that their soldiers had not been operating in that area recently. They also stated that the Lebanese army vehicle had entered what they referred to as a security zone without first coordinating with Israel — a step they say is required under an existing coordination agreement between the two sides.

The Lebanese army said its investigation into the incident is ongoing and offered no additional details at this time.
