According to a Monday ESPN report, the Los Angeles Lakers have reached a one-year contract agreement with free agent forward Matisse Thybulle, with the deal valued at $3.3 million.
The 29-year-old Thybulle has struggled to stay healthy in recent years, taking the court in only 45 games over the past two seasons due to a string of injuries affecting his knee, ankle, hip, and thumb. Despite those setbacks, the former first-round draft pick earned second-team All-NBA defensive honors in both the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons while playing for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Across seven NBA seasons, Thybulle has played in 377 regular-season games — spending time with the 76ers from 2019 to 2023 and then the Portland Trail Blazers from 2023 to 2026. His career averages stand at 5.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game.
While Thybulle shot just 32.5% from three-point range during his time in Philadelphia, that number climbed to 37.4% with Portland. Over his final two seasons, he connected on an even more impressive 41.1% of his attempts from beyond the arc, giving him a career three-point percentage of 34.9%.
With this addition, the Lakers would carry 16 guaranteed contracts heading into the 2026-27 season — one more than the league’s standard roster limit allows. Meanwhile, the team has also been exploring a potential sign-and-trade deal with the Atlanta Hawks involving Jonathan Kuminga, though ESPN noted Monday that those discussions have not made meaningful progress.
