Just one day after Israel and Lebanon signed a U.S.-brokered security arrangement meant to ease months of border tensions, Israel launched a drone strike into southern Lebanon on Saturday, June 27.
According to Lebanon’s state news agency, the drone hit the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa — a location that falls outside the boundaries of the expanded security zone that Israel had previously outlined on a publicly released map of the area its forces control in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli military confirmed to Reuters that it conducted the strike, explaining that a drone was used because no Israeli ground troops were present in the immediate vicinity. Officials stated the strike was directed at an individual who was considered a threat to Israeli forces, though no additional details or supporting evidence were provided.
