Gulf Storm Has 80% Chance of Becoming Cyclone Within 48 Hours

A low-pressure system churning over the Gulf of Mexico near Florida is growing more organized and has an 80% chance of developing into a cyclone within the next 48 hours, the U.S. National Hurricane Center announced in a Sunday advisory.

The Miami-based forecasting agency says the system is expected to continue developing gradually, with a tropical depression likely to form either later Sunday or by Monday. The storm is projected to drift slowly toward the north or northwest as it strengthens.
