Four Indian crew members were killed and a fifth left in critical condition after a ship departing the southern Ukrainian port of Odesa was struck in an attack on Sunday, according to a statement released late Monday by India’s foreign ministry.
Ukraine’s navy reported via the Telegram messaging platform that Russia fired three cruise missiles at the vessel, identified as the Golden Leo — a ship sailing under a Guinea-Bissau flag with a crew made up of Indian and Syrian nationals.
India’s foreign ministry issued a sharp condemnation of the incident, stating: “India condemns such attacks and reiterates that targeting commercial shipping and endangering innocent civilian crew members, or otherwise impeding freedom of navigation and commerce, is deplorable and should be avoided.”
