The federal government is preparing to release new guidelines this week that will determine how seven states divide access to Colorado River water.
The upcoming rules, being put forward by the Trump administration, will spell out each state’s share of the river’s resources. Notably, the impact these allocations could have on the surrounding ecosystem was largely left out of the equation during the rulemaking process.
