An advisory panel to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration cast a vote Friday in support of adding a peptide known as Semax to a list that would open the door to wider pharmacy compounding of the substance.
The vote came out 8 to 5 in favor of the recommendation, with one panel member choosing to abstain.
This marks the sixth peptide the panel has supported for expanded compounding access. However, the FDA is not obligated to follow the advisory panel’s guidance and will make the final determination on whether to ease restrictions surrounding these peptides.
