Authorities in Pennsylvania are on the hunt for suspects after the home of Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley was burglarized over the weekend.
Officers with the Tredyffrin Township Police Department, located roughly 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia, responded to the residence in the early morning hours Saturday after receiving a report of a burglary in progress. By the time police arrived on scene, the suspects had already taken off.
In a news release, police confirmed that neither Barkley nor any members of his family were injured during the incident. Investigators also released an image of a white SUV that may be connected to the break-in.
Authorities said no other burglary reports were filed in the surrounding area, and they are actively looking into whether Barkley’s home was specifically singled out as a target.
The Chester County District Attorney’s office has joined the investigation and is calling on the public for assistance. “We are asking the public to help us identify those responsible by checking any home security cameras for suspicious activity in the area” from early Saturday, the office said in a statement.
As of Monday, police and the district attorney’s office had not responded to requests for comment. Messages were also left with representatives for the Eagles and Barkley seeking a response.
The break-in comes against a backdrop of a broader pattern of athlete-targeted burglaries. Back in May, Argentine authorities arrested two Chilean citizens suspected of belonging to a transnational criminal gang responsible for orchestrating home burglaries targeting well-known athletes. Among the reported victims were NFL stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, as well as former tennis player Juan Martín del Potro, and NBA players Luka Doncic and Mike Conley Jr.
In 2024, the NFL sent a security alert to all teams and the players’ union in the wake of the burglaries connected to Mahomes and Kelce’s homes.
On the field, Barkley had a somewhat quieter 2024 season compared to his record-breaking year when he racked up 2,504 rushing yards across the regular season and playoffs — the most in NFL history. Last season, he still managed to rush for 1,140 yards and scored nine total touchdowns.
