An advisory panel working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration voted Thursday to add a widely used peptide known as TB-500 to a list that would allow pharmacies to compound it more broadly.
The vote was relatively close — eight panel members supported the move, six were opposed, and one member chose to abstain.
While the panel’s recommendation carries weight, the FDA is not required to follow it. The agency will make its own final determination on whether to relax the current restrictions surrounding the peptide.
