A tropical depression is slowly drifting off the west coast of Florida, prompting forecasters to keep a close eye on the system’s movements.
According to the National Hurricane Center, as of 1:00 PM Central Daylight Time on Sunday, July 19, the center of Tropical Depression Two was positioned near latitude 27.8 north, longitude 85.0 west. The storm was barely moving, tracking north-northwestward at only 1 mile per hour.
The depression had a minimum central pressure of 1011 millibars, with maximum sustained winds of approximately 30 miles per hour. At that wind speed, the system remains classified as a tropical depression, below the 39 mph threshold required for tropical storm status.
Forecasters will continue to monitor the slow-moving system for any signs of strengthening or a change in direction.
