MOSCOW — Russian forces carried out overnight strikes against three Ukrainian port cities, according to Russia’s Defence Ministry, which described the attacks as part of an ongoing campaign of heavy military action against Ukraine.
The ministry stated that air-launched missiles and strike drones were used to hit the ports of Odesa, Izmail, and Mykolaiv. Officials said the targets included infrastructure tied to Ukraine’s armed forces, such as loading and unloading facilities and fuel storage.
In Odesa, the ministry said fuel and lubricant storage tanks designated for the Ukrainian military were destroyed. In Izmail, the strikes reportedly hit facilities used to unload and store military cargo — including sea drones — and a floating dry dock was also damaged. In Mykolaiv, Russian forces claimed to have struck a cargo vessel that was in the process of unloading a military shipment.
Reuters was unable to independently confirm any of the claims made by Russia’s Defence Ministry.
Adding to concerns about the impact on civilian industry, a Geneva-based vegetable oil company called Allseeds announced Friday that it was suspending its operations in the Odesa region, citing the growing intensity of Russian attacks on port infrastructure. The company became the third business to make such an announcement in recent weeks.
