Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev disclosed Tuesday that his account on the social media platform X was compromised last week, with a cybercriminal using it to publish false content promoting a memecoin.
Tenev explained how the breach occurred in a post on X, writing: “A fraudster socially engineered X customer support to gain access, bypassing standard security features like 2FA and login notifications…”
According to Tenev, the fraudulent post was removed and his account was fully restored the same day it was hacked. He added: “Going forward, X account security has set up additional safeguards on my account to prevent this from happening again.”
The incident is part of a broader trend affecting American businesses, which have seen a surge in cybersecurity threats in recent times. Experts point to a growing wave of artificial intelligence-driven attacks that target sensitive data and can severely disrupt business operations.
