Atlanta Hawks’ Mouhamed Gueye Out After Foot Fracture During Workout

The Atlanta Hawks announced Wednesday that forward Mouhamed Gueye broke his left foot during a workout on July 8, sidelining the young big man at the start of the offseason.

The 23-year-old had surgery on Tuesday at the Emory Sports Medicine Complex in Atlanta to fix the fracture. The Hawks said he will be re-evaluated in three to four months. Atlanta’s preseason opens on October 5 when the Memphis Grizzlies come to town.

Gueye had his most productive NBA season last year, appearing in a career-best 77 regular season games with eight starts. He put up 4.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in 15.3 minutes of action. In the playoffs, he contributed 1.7 points and 1.7 rebounds across six games off the bench, averaging 8.3 minutes per contest.

Looking at his full NBA career, Gueye has appeared in 116 games — including 36 starts — since his rookie campaign in 2023-24, averaging 4.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 15.4 minutes per night.

Gueye entered the league when the Charlotte Hornets picked him 39th overall in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft out of Washington State. Just six days after being selected, he was moved to Atlanta as part of a three-team deal that also involved the Boston Celtics.
