  • State Police Arrest Magnolia Man for Vehicular Assault Following a Three-Vehicle Crash in Bethany Beach

    Delaware State Police have arrested 22-year-old Benjamin Herrera of Magnolia, Delaware, for vehicular assault, DUI, and other charges following a three-vehicle crash that occurred last night in Bethany Beach.

    On October 2, 2025, at approximately 7:55 p.m., troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Coastal Highway near Beach Cove Square, north of Bethany Beach. When troopers arrived, they contacted Benjamin Herrera, identified as the driver of a Dodge Challenger, involved in the crash. While speaking to him, troopers smelled an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath, and he showed multiple signs of impairment.

    The preliminary crash investigation revealed that the Challenger was traveling southbound on Coastal Highway near Beach Cove Square, in a reckless manner and at an apparent high rate of speed. At the same time, a Nissan Frontier was traveling southbound, in the left lane on Coastal Highway and a Chevrolet Colorado was also traveling southbound, in the right lane, both ahead of the Challenger. The Challenger struck the Nissan, pushing it into the right lane, and as a result, the Nissan struck the Chevrolet, causing it to overturn.

    The driver of the Chevrolet, a 59-year-old man from New Castle, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

    The driver of the Nissan, a 44-year-old man and a 7-year-old passenger, both from Ocean View, Delaware, refused transport to the hospital.

    Coastal Highway southbound was closed while the scene was investigated and cleared.


    Herrera was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. While being transported by ambulance, he threatened a paramedic and an EMT. After he was released from the hospital, he was arrested and taken to Troop 4, where he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,300 cash bond.

    Delaware State Police have arrested 27-year-old Ivory Brown of Harrington, Delaware, for vehicular assault, DUI, and related charges following a single-vehicle crash that occurred last night in Greenwood.

    On September 26, 2025, at approximately 11:21 p.m., troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on the 6500 block of Hickman Road in Greenwood. When troopers arrived, they contacted Ivory Brown, identified as the driver of a Ford Edge, involved in the crash. While speaking to him, troopers smelled an odor of alcoholic beverages and observed other signs of impairment. Brown was treated by EMS but refused transport to the hospital. After Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, he was taken into custody without incident.

    The preliminary crash investigation revealed that the Ford was traveling on Hickman Road near Woodbridge Road, exited the roadway, entered a ditch, and overturned an unknown number of times. As a result, two of the five passengers in the car were ejected.

    Two passengers in the car, a 27-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, both from Milford, Delaware, were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

    The other passengers, two 19-year-old men, and a 6-year-old child, were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.


    Brown was taken to Troop 5, where he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $10,402 secured bond.

  • State Police Arrest Delmar Man for Vehicular Assault Following a Two-Vehicle Crash in Greenwood

    Delaware State Police have arrested 19-year-old Jayden Waters of Delmar, Maryland, for vehicular assault, DUI, and related traffic charges following a two-vehicle head-on crash that occurred last night in Greenwood.

    On September 26, 2025, at approximately 11:05 p.m., troopers responded to a two-vehicle, head-on crash on Seashore Highway near Adamsville Road in Greenwood. When troopers arrived, they contacted Jayden Waters, identified as the driver of a GMC pick-up truck, involved in the crash. While speaking to him, troopers smelled an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

    The preliminary crash investigation revealed that the GMC pick-up was traveling westbound on Seashore Highway near Adamsville Road, attempting to pass two tractor-trailers. At the same time, a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling eastbound on Seashore Highway near Adamsville Road. As a result, the GMC struck the Tahoe head-on.

    The driver of the Tahoe, a 43-year-old man from Georgetown, Delaware, and a 13-year-old passenger, were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Another passenger, a 4o-year old woman, also from Georgetown, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital where she was treated and released. Two children in the Tahoe were not injured.

    Waters was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.


    After being released from the hospital, Waters was arrested and taken to Troop 5. He was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3, and released after posting a $4,501 secured bond.

  • Troopers Arrest Smyrna Man for 5th Offense Felony DUI Following Crash Investigation

    Delaware State Police have arrested 53-year-old Wesley Smith of Smyrna, Delaware, for 5th offense felony DUI and other traffic offenses following a crash investigation yesterday in Middletown.

    On August 20, 2025, at approximately 12:48 p.m., troopers responded to Summit Bridge Road near Churchtown Road for a personal injury vehicle crash. When troopers arrived, they learned that a Nissan Frontier, driven by Wesley Smith, was traveling southbound on Summit Bridge Road near Churchtown Road when it left the southbound lane and entered the northbound lane. The Nissan then re-entered the southbound lane of Summit Bridge Road and struck a Chevrolet Equinox, causing it to overturn.

    The driver of the Chevrolet, a 35-year-old woman from Middletown, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

    While Smith was being treated by EMS, troopers observed signs of impairment, and he was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. When troopers contacted Smith at the hospital, he attempted to run away but was ultimately taken into custody. A computer check showed that Smith had four prior DUI-related convictions.


    Smith was taken to Troop 9, where he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a secured bond.

  • Troopers Arrest Milford Man for Reckless Endangering After DUI Hit-and-Run Crash

    Delaware State Police have arrested 26-year-old Damian Lee of Milford, Delaware, for reckless endangering and DUI following a hit-and-run crash in Frederica yesterday.

    On April 16, 2025, at approximately 6:07 p.m., troopers responded to the 1000 block of Buffalo Road in Frederica for a report of a hit-and-run crash involving a silver minivan that struck a fence. While responding, a trooper saw a silver Mazda 5 with front end damage traveling northbound on South Dupont Highway near West Lebanon Road. The damage and description of the Mazda was consistent with the reported hit-and-run vehicle. The trooper pulled the Mazda over, and spoke to the driver, identified as Damian Lee. The trooper observed multiple signs of impairment from Lee and took him into custody without incident. In the ensuing investigation, troopers learned that the Mazda struck a fence, and drove through the front yard of two residences, where it nearly hit two children. No injuries were reported.


    Lee was taken to Troop 3, where troopers administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. After the tests, Lee was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7, and released on a $10,800 unsecured bond.

  • Virginia man killed in tractor trailer crash near Bridgeville

    Virginia man killed in tractor trailer crash near Bridgeville

    A Virginia man has died following a serious crash with a tractor trailer near Bridgeville.

    According to Delaware State Police, the crash occurred just before 2 p.m., Wednesday as a 2022 Freightliner Truck Tractor towing a 2012 Viking Trailer was traveling westbound on Seashore Highway approaching the intersection of Scotts Store Road.

    A 2021 Nissan Altima was stopped at the stop sign on at the intersection.

    For unknown reasons, police say the driver of the Altima failed to remain stopped as the Freightliner approached and pulled into its path while turning left onto Seashore Highway.

    The Freightliner tried to brake and swerve to avoid striking the Nissan, but was unable to resulting in the front right side of the Freightliner striking the left side of the Altima.

    The driver and sole occupant of the Freightliner, a 64-year-old Milford man, was properly restrained and was not injured.

    The driver of the Nissan, an 80-year-old Alexandria, VA man, was properly restrained and was transported to an area hospital by helicopter in critical condition.

    Unfortunately, on Thursday, he passed away as a result of his injuries.

    A 77-year-old Alexandria, VA, woman was properly restrained in the front passenger seat. She was transported to an area hospital and admitted with serious injuries.

    The road was closed for about 3 and a half hours while the crash was investigated and later cleared.

    17-year-old killed, several more injured in crash near Lewes

    A 17-year-old Middletown teen has died and several more were injured in a serious crash near Lewes.

    According to the Delaware State Police Department, the crash occurred around 2:10 p.m., Friday as a 2012 Honda CR-V was traveling eastbound on Lewes-Georgetown Highway (Route 9), approaching the intersection at Ebb Tide Drive.

    At the same time, police say a 2009 Ram 1500 was traveling westbound on Lewes-Georgetown Highway, crossing the intersection at Ebb Tide Drive. A non-contact vehicle was stopped eastbound waiting to turn left onto Ebb Tide Drive. A second non-contact vehicle was also slowing to a stop behind that vehicle.

    The driver of the Honda failed to see the stopped traffic ahead, according to police, and in an attempt to avoid a collision, swerved left into the westbound lane.

    The Ram also swerved towards the shoulder, to avoid the Honda, but the front of both vehicles struck in a near-head-on collision. After impact the Honda overturned and struck a utility pole before coming to rest off the roadway. The Ram came to rest in the same area as the impact.

    There were five occupants inside of the Honda: An 18-year-old male of Bear, DE was flown to Christiana Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries; A 17-year-old female of Bear, DE was transported to Beebe Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries; An 18-year-old female of Wilmington, DE was flown to Christiana Hospital in critical condition; A 16-year-old female of Middletown, DE was flown to Christiana Hospital in critical condition; A 17-year-old male of Middletown, DE was transported to Beebe Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

    The driver of the Honda has not been confirmed. This remains an active and on-going investigation.

    The 77-year-old male operator of the Ram was treated and released at an area hospital for minor injuries.

    The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the investigation was completed, and the roadway was cleared.

    Service Member Killed in E-2D Crash Identified

    NORFOLK, Va. – On Wednesday, March 30, Lt. Hyrum Hanlon, assigned to Airborne Command and Control Squadron (VAW) 120 lost his life when an E-2D Advanced Hawkeye conducting routine flight operations crashed in the vicinity of Wallops Island and Chincoteague, Va. ​

    Hanlon, who commissioned in the Navy from Arizona State University in May 2017, reported to VAW-120 Jan. 31, 2021. 

    “It takes a courageous and patriotic person to devote their life to the selflessness of serving in the armed forces,” said Cmdr. Martin Fentress Jr., Commanding Officer of VAW-120 “Hyrum embodied those characteristics and will be truly missed by his family and the Hawkeye community. We sincerely appreciate the public respecting the family’s privacy during this difficult time as they mourn his loss.” 

    The U.S. Navy continues to coordinate with state and local officials on the salvage planning efforts of the E-2D aircraft. The health and safety of the local community is a top priority during recovery efforts; overflight aircraft confirmed no pollution or discharge of fuel in the area. Salvage operations are expected to proceed in accordance with standard procedures which consider all environmental impacts.   

    The cause of the mishap remains under investigation.

    Navy E2-D Hawkeye Crash In Chincoteague Bay | 1 Fatality / 2 Rescued

    The US Navy reports that a plane went down in the Chincoteague Bay just outside of the NASA Wallops Island Flight around 7:30PM on Wednesday. A Navy E2-D Hawkeye was conducting normal routine flight operations when, for unknown reasons, the aircraft went down into the waters of the Chincoteague Bay.

    Upon arrival of the Coast Guard, the Ocean City Dive Team, Accomack County VA’s, and Wicomico County first responders found two individuals who escaped to the top of the aircraft.

    TV Delmarva News has learned that a third person was still inside the aircraft at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other crew members sustained non-life threatening injuries.

    An investigation remains ongoing at this time to determine what caused the crash of the E2-D Hawkeye. The names of the crew members and pilot are being withheld at this time.

  • Delmar man charged with DUI, Vehicular Homicide after woman dies in crash

    Delmar man charged with DUI, Vehicular Homicide after woman dies in crash

    Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred Thursday night at the intersection of Delmar Road and North Spring Hill Road.

    According to Delaware State Police, the crash occurred around 6 p.m., Thursday as a 2004 Ford F250 pickup truck, operated by 22-year-old Luke Figgs, of Delmar, Delaware was traveling southbound on Susan Beach Road.

    The Ford stopped at the intersection of Delmar Road for a posted stop sign, intending on continuing south onto North Spring Hill Road. At the same time, a 1999 Honda Accord, operated by a 30-year-old Mardela Springs, Maryland woman was traveling eastbound on Delmar Road approaching the same intersection.

    The Ford entered the intersection and pulled directly into the path of the Honda where the front of the Ford struck the front driver side of the car. As a result, the Honda rotated counterclockwise off the southeast corner of roadway and into the grass where its passenger side struck a utility pole.

    The Ford failed to stop at the scene and began traveling eastbound on Delmar Road. An officer from the Delmar Police Department found the hit-and-run vehicle on East Pine Street in Delmar, Maryland where a traffic stop was initiated and police made contact with the driver, Figgs who was taken into custody without incident. 

    The driver of the Honda, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was transported by ambulance to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury where she died as a result of her injuries. Her identification is pending notification of next of kin.

    There were two passengers, ages 4 and 29, who were inside of the Honda at the time of the crash. They were transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.

    Figgs was not injured and was committed to the Wicomico County Detention Center on DUI and other traffic related charges in Maryland. There is an active warrant for his arrest on Vehicular Homicide (Felony), and two counts of Vehicular Assault 2nd (Felony), and numerous traffic related charges.

    The road was closed for approximately six hours while the investigation was completed and the crash was cleared.

    Bridgeville man killed, several injured in Harrington crash

    A Bridgeville man was killed and several people were injured following a serious crash in Harrington.

    According to Delaware State Police, the crash occurred around 6:53 p.m., Sunday as a 31-year-old Marydel, Maryland man was driving a Honda Civic northbound on South DuPont Hwy in the left lane approaching the intersection of Hopkins Cemetery Road.

    The Civic entered the left turn lane and median crossover and then, without stopping, began crossing southbound onto South DuPont Hwy to Hopkins Cemetery Road. At the same time, a 31-year-old Salisbury, Maryland woman was driving a GMC Terrain southbound on South DuPont Hwy in the right lane approaching the intersection of Hopkins Cemetery Road.

    As the Honda crossed into the path of the GMC, the front bumper of the GMC struck the Honda’s passenger side door in the right lane of South DuPont Hwy. After the collision, the GMC pushed the Honda into a stop sign and then into the parking lot of a nearby furniture store.

    The 31-year-old Marydel man was flown to an area hospital where he was admitted in serious condition. Seated in the front passenger seat of the Honda was a 30-year-old Bridgeville man who sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

    EMS transported the 31-year-old Salisbury woman to an area hospital where she was admitted for non-life-threatening injuries. Also in the GMC was a 59-year-old female, a 31-year-old female, a 6-year-old female, a 5-year-old female, and a 3-year-old male. All passengers were transported to an area hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

    The road was closed for approximately four hours for the crash investigation and cleanup.

    Police chase results in serious crash near Ellendale

    At least one person has been hospitalized after a police chase led to a serious crash near Ellendale.

    According to first responders with the Ellendale Fire Company, around 7:48 a.m., Sunday crews were called to respond to a motor vehicle crash with injuries on Route 113, just north of Beach Highway. Emergency personnel responded and found that a pickup truck had been involved in a police chase and struck the back of a work van while speeding in an attempt to evade police.

    Crews worked to stabilize and secure the vehicles and treat patients on scene. One person was transported by an Ellendale ambulance to Bayhealth Medical Center, and two others were assessed and released on scene.

    Delaware State Police are investigating.

    13-year-old girl killed in crash near Millsboro

    A 13-year-old girl has died following a serious crash near Millsboro.

    According to the Delaware State Police Department, the crash occurred around 1:11 p.m., Monday as a 2006 Jeep Liberty, operated by a 17-year-old girl from Frankford, was traveling northbound on Hollyville Road, approaching the intersection at Harmony Cemetery Road. At the same time, a 2016 Freightliner flatbed truck was traveling southbound in the same vicinity. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Jeep lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the southbound lane, and began rotating in counterclockwise rotation, exposing the passenger side. 

    Police say the driver of the Freightliner, a 26-year-old Salisbury, Maryland man, applied the brakes in an attempt to avoid a collision, but the front of the truck struck the passenger side of the Jeep. After impact, the Jeep was forced off the west side of the road. The Freightliner was redirected off the west side of the road and struck a tree.

    The driver of the Jeep was transported to Beebe hospital and treated for minor injuries. There was a 13-year-old girl in the front seat. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

    The road was closed for over three hours while the investigation was completed and the roadway was cleared.

    Two children, ages 14 and 7, were killed this afternoon in a serious, head-on crash near Seaford.

    According to the Delaware State Police Department, the crash occurred around 12:33 p.m., Thursday as a 2009 Nissan Altima, operated by a 53-year-old Seaford man, was traveling southbound on Atlanta Road. At the same time, a 2018 Kia Soul, driven by a 36-year-old Seaford woman, was traveling northbound on the same road in the area of the Nissan.

    For unknown reasons, police say the driver of the Nissan crossed the double solid yellow line and struck the Kia head-on in the northbound lane of travel. The driver of the Nissan was properly restrained and airlifted to an area hospital where he was admitted in serious condition.

    The driver of the Kia was properly restrained and transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where she was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries.

    The Kia driver’s 14-year-old daughter was properly restrained in the left rear passenger seat. The driver’s 7-year-old son was properly restrained with a backless booster seat in the right rear passenger seat. Unfortunately, due to injuries sustained during the collision, the juveniles were pronounced dead at the scene.

    Police investigate fatal pedestrian crash in Felton

    Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash in Felton.

    According to Delaware State Police, the incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m., Wednesday as a 2011 Nissan Rogue was traveling southbound on South DuPont Highway in the left lane, just north of Peach Basket Road.

    At the same time, a 55-year-old Harrington woman was near the center of the left lane when the Nissan struck her with its front bumper.

    The vehicle continued southbound a short distance and stopped in the left lane of South DuPont Highway, just south of Peach Basket Road. 

    The 55-year-old Harrington woman was dressed in dark clothing and was not carrying a light. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The 17-year-old driver is also from Harrington. She was uninjured during the collision. 

    South DuPont Highway was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and later cleared.

    A Felton man has died after his car ran off the road and struck a tree.

    According to Delaware State Police, the crash occurred just before 7 a.m. Monday as a 55-year-old Felton man was driving a 2003 Jeep Cherokee eastbound on Firetower Road, just east of Berrytown Road.

    For unknown reasons, the driver exited the north edge of the roadway and entered a ditch.

    The Jeep traveled a short distance before the front center of the vehicle collided with a large tree.

    The driver was not properly restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The road was closed for around three hours while the crash was investigated and later cleared.

    A head-on collision this morning near Bridgeville has claimed the life of a 20-year-old Federalsburg, Maryland man.

    According to Delaware State Police, the crash occurred around 7:24 a.m., Friday as a 2021 Toyota Corolla, operated by a 20-year-old Federalsburg, Maryland man, was traveling eastbound on Atlanta Road, negotiating a slight right curve. At the same time, a 2021 fully loaded cement Mack Granite truck, driven by a 53-year-old Bridgeville man, was traveling westbound in the same area.

    Due to unknown circumstances, police say the Toyota failed to negotiate a curve and crossed into the westbound lane, directly into the path of the cement truck. The truck tried to avoid the collision and hit the breaks; however, the front of the Toyota struck the front of the Mack truck in a head-on collision. 

    The cement truck pushed the Toyota a short distance backwards in a westerly direction before coming to a rest, according to police. The cement truck became engulfed in flames.

    The driver of the Toyota, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The 53-year-old driver of the cement truck was uninjured.

    The road was closed for six hours while the investigation was completed and the highway was cleared.

    Delaware State Police are on the scene of a serious motor vehicle crash in Rehoboth.

    According to State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 8:58 a.m. this morning on John J Williams Hwy (SR24) in the area of Mulberry Knoll Rd.

    As a result of the crash, SR24 between Plantations Road and Mulberry Knoll Rd is closed with emergency response vehicles on scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes of travel.

    The road closure is anticipated to be lengthy with no estimated time for a re-opening.

    New York woman killed in Milford crash

    A serious crash has claimed the life of a New York woman in Milford.

    According to the Delaware State Police Department, the crash occurred around 2:26 p.m., Sunday as a 2016 Kia Soul, operated by a 31-year-old New Windsor, New York woman, was traveling southbound on Bay Road (SR1) in the right lane just south of Old Cemetery Road.

    A 2016 Ford F-450 Comcast/Xfinity bucket truck, operated by a 56-year-old Dover man, was stopped on the right shoulder of SR1 just south of Old Cemetery Road with its amber lights flashing.

    For unknown reasons, the Kia suddenly veered to the right shoulder and struck the rear of the truck.

    The 31-year-old driver of the Kia Soul was properly restrained and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. A dog traveling inside the Kia was turned over to the local SPCA and it is unknown if the animal was injured.

    The 56-year-old Comcast truck driver was properly restrained and was transported to Bayhealth Sussex Campus where he was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries.

    SR1 southbound between Old Cemetery Road and Cicada Lane was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

    Police investigate fatal motorcycle crash near Milton

    A Lewes man has died following a serious motorcycle crash near Milton.

    According to Delaware State Police, the crash occurred around 7:30 a.m., when a 2002 Jeep Cherokee SUV, driven by a 52-year-old Georgetown woman, was stopped at a stop sign on northbound Cool Spring Road at Stockley Road.

    A 2012 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic Electro Glide motorcycle, operated by a 52-year-old Lewes area man, was traveling westbound on Stockley Road, approaching the intersection with Cool Spring Road.

    Westbound Stockley Road at this intersection is a throughway, and traffic is not required to stop, police emphasized.

    The driver of the Cherokee failed to remain stopped and proceeded through the intersection directly into the path of the Harley Davidson. As a result, the motorcycle collided with the Cherokee’s passenger side.

    The motorcycle came to rest within the intersection and the Cherokee came to a controlled stop north of the intersection.

    The driver of the Cherokee was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, where she was treated and released.

    The operator of the Harley Davidson was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

    The crash remains under investigation.

    Harrington woman killed in crash on Route 13

    A serious crash claimed the life of a Harrington woman Monday afternoon after her car went off the road and struck a pole on Route 13.

    According to Delaware State Police, the crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. as a 47-year-old Harrington woman was operating a 2009 Dodge Charger headed southbound on Route 13 near Paradise Alley Road.

    Police say she veered off the west edge of the roadway, tried to regain control of the car and then turned back into the right lane. It was at that time that the vehicle started to travel in a clockwise direction and travelled off the road and struck a Verizon utility pole.

    The impact of the crash caused the car to overturn on its roof before coming to rest in a private driveway.

    The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

    The road was closed for over two hours as the accident was investigated and later cleared.
