  • State Police Arrest Maryland Man Following Carjacking Incident in Middletown

    Delaware State Police have arrested 51-year-old David Thornton of Essex, Maryland, following a carjacking incident that occurred yesterday afternoon in Middletown.

    On December 12, 2025, at approximately 1:15 p.m., a Texas man was traveling north on State Route 301 near Summit Bridge Road, in a white Chevrolet Silverado, when he saw two vehicles that had been involved in a crash. The man stopped to help and spoke to the driver of a Mercedes involved in the crash, later identified as David Thornton. While the victim was calling 9-1-1, he saw Thronton get into the driver’s seat of his Silverado. When the victim opened the back door of the Silverado, Thornton began reaching for something, told the victim to get out, and sped away.

    The Silverado was tracked electronically and was located a short time later on the ramp from northbound I-95 to Airport Road after it struck a guard rail. When troopers arrived, Thornton was taken into custody without incident. During a search of the Silverado, troopers found a revolver style CO2 BB gun.

    Thornton was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries from the crashes. After he was released, he was taken to Troop 2, where he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11, and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $20,000 cash bond.

  • State Police Arrest Two Teens for Armed Carjacking in Smyrna

    The Delaware State Police arrested a 17-year-old male from Georgetown, Delaware, and a 14-year-old male from Dover, Delaware, for robbery and theft-related offenses stemming from an armed carjacking that occurred Thursday morning in Smyrna.

    On July 3, 2025, at approximately 6:00 a.m., troopers responded to a report of an armed carjacking that occurred on Berry Drive in Smyrna. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim gave a ride to 2 unknown black males to the area of Holly Hill Estates in his Mazda CX-5. As they arrived on Berry Drive, one of the suspects pointed a firearm at the victim, and the other suspect held him against his seat as they demanded the Mazda’s keys. After complying, the victim exited his vehicle, and the suspects fled in the stolen Mazda. Shortly after the carjacking, Dover Police Department Officers observed the stolen Mazda as it traveled through Dover, and initiated a traffic stop. The 2 suspects, identified as a 17-year-old male and 14-year-old male, were ultimately taken into custody following a vehicle and foot pursuit in which a firearm, and ammunition were recovered.

    While investigating the carjacking, troopers responded to a report of an attempted vehicle theft that occurred overnight at a residence on Cedar Court in Smyrna. During the investigation, troopers learned 2 unknown suspects broke into the victim’s Hyundai during the overnight hours, and attempted to steal the vehicle. Troopers observed the Hyundai’s rear passenger window had been shattered and the ignition had been ripped out. This type of damage is consistent with the nationwide trend of Hyundais being stolen using a screwdriver and a USB cable. Through investigative means, troopers identified the suspects responsible for the attempted vehicle theft as the 17-year-old male, and the 14-year-old who were in custody for the carjacking.

    Following the pursuit, the suspects were taken to Troop 3, where they were each charged with multiple crimes.


    The 17-year-old male was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Kent County Family Court, and committed to Stevenson House Detention Center on a $5,000 cash bond.

  • Detectives Investigating Claymont Area Motel Armed Carjacking

    The Delaware State Police are investigating a Claymont area motel armed carjacking that occurred early this morning.

    On June 10, 2025, at approximately 2:35 a.m., troopers responded to the Riverview Motel, located at 7811 Governor Printz Boulevard, Claymont, for a report of an armed carjacking. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was walking to his car in the motel’s parking lot when he saw 2-3 unknown male suspects attempting to get into his car. The victim confronted the suspects, which led to a physical altercation during which 2 of the suspects displayed firearms. The suspects ultimately fled in the victim’s car toward Governor Printz Boulevard. The victim was evaluated at the scene by EMS for a minor injury.

    The suspects are described as 2-3 unknown black males wearing dark-colored clothing. Surveillance video and images are not yet available.

  • Detectives Investigating Armed Robbery in Bear Area Shopping Center

    The Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred in the Salem Center parking lot in Bear on Monday afternoon.

    On May 19, 2025, at approximately 2:15 p.m., troopers responded to a report of an armed robbery in the parking lot of the Salem Center, located at 1693 Pulaski Highway in Bear. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was involved in an argument with a suspect while in the parking lot. During the argument, a second suspect approached, and displayed a handgun. The 2 suspects then conspired to take the victim’s vehicle, and fled from the shopping center in the stolen vehicle.

    The suspects are described as unknown males. Surveillance video and images are not yet available.

  • *Update – Second Suspect Arrested* Detectives Arrest Suspect for Robbery at Merchants Square in Edgemoor; Two Suspects Remain At-Large

    The Delaware State Police arrested a 15-year-old male from Elkton, Maryland, for multiple robbery charges following an incident that occurred last month at Merchants Square shopping center in Edgemoor. Detectives continue investigating this incident as two suspects remain at-large.

    On April 14, 2025, at approximately 1:33 a.m., troopers responded to Merchants Square shopping center, located at 4405 Governor Printz Boulevard, Edgemoor, for a report of a robbery and attempted carjacking. The preliminary investigation revealed that multiple victims were in their respective vehicles in the parking lot when they were approached by 3 male suspects. The suspects, who arrived in a black Chevrolet Equinox driven by an unknown black male, demanded money and personal belongings from the victims. During the robbery, the driver of the Equinox appeared to be recording the 3 suspects as they attempted to forcibly enter the victims’ vehicles. The suspects were able to enter one of the vehicles, and a struggle ensued with the occupants. The 3 suspects ultimately fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money and the victims’ personal belongings. The driver of the Equinox entered the front passenger seat of an unknown blue SUV, which fled northbound from the parking lot.

    Through investigative means, detectives identified Geralds as the driver of the Equinox, and he was taken into custody on April 16, 2025.

    In the ongoing investigation, Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Detectives identified the 15-year-old male as one of the suspects responsible for the robbery, and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance for any information that may lead their continued efforts to identify the remaining 2 young black male suspects responsible for the robbery. The suspects are described as young black males. Surveillance video and images are not yet available.

    On May 9, 2025, Wilmington Police Department Officers located the 15-year-old male, and took him into custody without incident. He was taken to Troop 2, where he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11, and committed to New Castle County Detention Center on a $38,500 secured bond.

Detectives continue investigating this incident as additional suspects remain at-large.

Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance for any information that may lead their on-going efforts to identify the remaining suspects responsible for the robbery. The suspects are described as young black males. Surveillance video and images are not yet available.

    On April 16, 2025, detectives located Geralds at his residence, and took him into custody without incident. Geralds was taken to Troop 2, where he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on an $84,000 cash bond.

    Delaware State Police Arrests Two Subjects for Robbery

    Delaware State Police have arrested Francisco Martinez, 19 of Millsboro, DE, and Kyle Kilgo, 19, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, for robbery and related charges following an incident that occurred last night.

    On October 15, 2022, at approximately 10:34 p.m., troopers responded to Wawa, located at 31055 Veterans Way, Rehoboth Beach for a report of a robbery. Investigation determined a 39-year-old male victim was exiting the Wawa parking lot on his scooter when he was stopped by two subjects. One of the two suspects grabbed the victim by his jacket and threatened to kill him if he did not give him his wallet, scooter, and other personal belongings. The same suspect began to physically assault the victim and displayed a knife towards him. At the time, the second suspect displayed a handgun towards the victim. The victim complied and gave up his personal belongings and sat on the ground as instructed. The first suspect attempted to flee the scene on the stolen scooter but was unable to operate it. Both suspects then fled the scene on foot.

    Troopers responded to the area and located the suspects. After a foot pursuit, with the assistance of the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit, troopers apprehended both suspects, identified as Francisco Martinez and Kyle Kilgo.

    Martinez and Kilgo were transported to Troop 7 where they were each charged with the following crimes:

    One suspect arrested, another wanted in Dover overnight carjacking

    Dover Police arrest a suspect and seeking a second in connection to an early Thursday morning carjacking. Officers say the incident happened at the Royal Farms on Saulsbury Road, where a female victim went inside and left her vehicle running. Two suspects, including 20-year-old Dakota Borntreger, allegedly attempted to steal her vehicle but the female victim spotted them and ran back out to confront them. Police say that is when one of the suspects pointed a handgun at her and took off with the vehicle.

    Smyrna Police later spotted the vehicle just after 3:00 a.m. and pursued the suspects to the area of South Governors Avenue and Bank Lane. Borntreger was apprehended, but the second suspect eluded law enforcement.

    Police uncovered two handguns from Borntreger. He faces numerous charges, including:

    -Robbery 1st Degree

    -Possession of Untraceable Firearm (2x)

    -Possession of Firearm by Person Prohibited

    -Wearing a Disguise

    -Conspiracy 2nd Degree

    He was lodged at SCI on a $46,000 cash bond.
