John Collins Agrees to 3-Year, $51M Contract with Detroit Pistons

Forward John Collins has agreed to join the Detroit Pistons on a three-year deal worth $51 million, ESPN reported Wednesday.

The 28-year-old is expected to slot in as the starting power forward in Detroit. Collins wrapped up the 2025-26 season with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he appeared in 69 games — starting 56 of them — and averaged 13.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He also set a career best by shooting 40.6% from beyond the three-point arc.

Collins entered the league as a first-round pick — 19th overall — selected by Atlanta in 2017. Over 541 career games and 466 starts, he has averaged 15.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per contest. His NBA stops have included the Hawks from 2017 to 2023, the Utah Jazz from 2023 to 2025, and most recently the Clippers.

During his time in Atlanta, Collins built his reputation as a pick-and-roll partner alongside guard Trae Young. Detroit is envisioning a similar dynamic for Collins, this time playing alongside All-Star point guard Cade Cunningham.
