While much of the country is celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence, the occasion carries a more somber tone for some Indigenous communities who were forcibly removed from their homelands.<\/p>

Members of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma make trips every few years to revisit ancestral lands and historically significant sites in the Midwest. For them, those journeys take on a deeper meaning as the nation marks this major milestone.<\/p>
