WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. \u2014 Miami Marlins pitcher Eury P\u00e9rez was on the verge of baseball history Sunday, carrying a perfect game into the eighth inning against the Athletics.<\/p>

The 23-year-old right-hander sat down all 21 batters he faced through seven innings, racking up eight strikeouts in the process. P\u00e9rez had thrown 92 pitches total, with 56 of them finding the strike zone.<\/p>

A perfect game would mark a milestone not just for P\u00e9rez, but for the entire Marlins organization \u2014 the franchise has never had one in its 33-year existence.<\/p>

Oakland’s hitters had little to show for their at-bats. P\u00e9rez generated six flyouts, and only one of those balls traveled deep enough to reach the warning track.<\/p>

Sunday’s outing marked P\u00e9rez’s first appearance against the A’s since his rookie campaign back in 2023. He has yet to complete a full game at the major league level in his career.<\/p>
