President Donald Trump announced Friday that he held a conversation with Ali al-Zaidi, Iraq’s newly nominated prime minister, during which he pledged America’s complete backing for the incoming leader.<\/p>

Speaking to members of the press prior to his departure from the White House for Florida, Trump expressed enthusiasm about the development. “With our help, he won, and we want him to do very well. And I told him that the United States is with him all the way. It was a great victory, the new head of Iraq is somebody that we support, very strongly,” the president stated.<\/p>

Earlier this week on Monday, Iraq’s Coordination Framework, which represents an alliance of Shiite political groups, announced Zaidi as their selection for the prime ministerial position, according to a statement from the coalition.<\/p>
