A tragic case of mistaken identity during a military operation in southern Lebanon resulted in the death of one Israeli soldier and left another with severe injuries early Saturday morning.<\/p>

The fallen serviceman was identified as 21-year-old Sgt. First Class Guy Ludar from Yuvalim, who served with the elite Maglan Unit within the Commando Brigade. The fatal incident took place around 3 a.m. during a mission in the village of Shebaa, where special forces were conducting a raid to apprehend an individual suspected of providing assistance to Hezbollah.<\/p>

Preliminary findings from the Israel Defense Forces investigation reveal that a soldier mistakenly opened fire on two of his own unit members, believing them to be captured Hezbollah operatives attempting to escape. The confusion led to Ludar’s death and left his fellow soldier with life-threatening wounds.<\/p>

This mission was conducted as part of Israel’s continued military operations in the region, which escalated after Hezbollah became involved in the broader conflict. The militant organization entered the fighting following the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.<\/p>
